Men’s Lax Falls to Nationally-Ranked RIT
Junior Connor Latimer (Whitby, ON/Genesee Community College) scored one goal with two assists while sophomore James Voigt (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) added two goals, but the Keuka College men's lacrosse team fell to nationally-ranked RIT 25-5 Saturday in the Storm's season opener at Penn Yan Academy.
The Tigers (2-1), ranked seventh in the latest NCAA Division III national rankings, jumped out to a 10-0 lead after one quarter and took a 17-0 lead into halftime against the Storm (0-1), the two-time defending North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) champions.
The deficit grew to 18-0 before sophomore Anthony Luppino (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) scored off a feed from Latimer for a man-up goal 1:31 into the third quarter.
Latimer set up freshman Brendan King (Auburn, NY/Auburn) for an even-strength goal with 4:55 remaining in the quarter, then Latimer, a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association All-American at Genesee Community College, scored with 22 seconds left in the quarter for the first goal of his Keuka career.
Voigt added a pair of unassisted fourth-quarter goals for the Storm, who were outshot 59-23 and had 19 groundballs compared to 46 for the Tigers.
Tyler Brooks-Lambert (10-for-10) and Tyler Shaw (12-for-13) helped RIT go 28-for-34 on faceoffs. Eddie Kiesa and Braden Wallace each scored four goals for the Tigers, who won the Liberty League title and advanced into the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament in 2012.
The Storm are on the road for non-conference games against Emmanuel (Mass.) College on March 16 and Alfred University on March 20.
