Three student-athletes scored in double-figures to pace the Keuka College men's basketball team to a 70-56 win over Cazenovia College Saturday in Cazenovia, N.Y.
Senior Jared Wagner (Pittsford, N.Y./McQuaid) scored a season-high 19 points while connecting on 71.4 percent of his three-point attempts (5 of 7) as Keuka (6-3, 3-0 NEAC) remained in sole possession of first place in the North Division of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).
Junior Casey Williams (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) added 18 points with 5 rebounds and 3 assists, while senior Trevor Healey (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) scored 13 points with eight rebounds as the Wolfpack won their fourth straight contest.
Williams connected on 80 percent of his '3s' (4 of 5) as the Green and Gold shot a season-best 68.8 percent (11 of 16) on three-pointers.
Keuka also set a season-high in field goal percentage, connecting on 61.5 percent of its shots (24 of 39).
The Green and Gold enjoyed a 32-25 edge in rebounding and never trailed against the Wildcats (3-7, 1-1).
Tied at 2 early on, Williams knocked down a pair of '3s' and Wagner added a three-pointer to give the Green and Gold an 11-2 lead just 90 seconds into the contest.
Junior Miles Boyer (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) hit a free throw and Williams added his third '3' of the half to cap a 13-0 run as Keuka led 15-2 with 12:44 remaining in the first.
Leading 17-10, Zambito hit a triple to push the edge to 10 points, and Starks made a layup for a 22-10 lead with 4:46 remaining.
Keuka led by at least nine points for the rest of the half and went into halftime up 32-19 after a triple from Wagner with eight seconds left in the half.
Each team hit two straight baskets to open the second, and Keuka led 36-23 after Zambito buried a jumper with 18:36 remaining.
Cazenovia closed within 40-31 on a free throw from Brad LeFevre with 16:13 remaining, but Starks sparked the Wolfpack on a 9-3 run with a '3'. Healey added a jumper and Williams and Wagner each made layups for a 49-34 lead with 11:06 to play.
Keith Caiello hit a '3' to trim the Keuka lead to 49-40 with 9:36 remaining, but Williams and Wagner each made '3's and Healey knocked down a jumper to cap an 8-0 run.
The Wolfpack led by at least 12 points the rest of the way en route to their third straight conference victory.
The Green and Gold continue a four-game road trip to open 2015 with a 7 p.m. NEAC clash Wednesday night against Morrisville State, the three-time defending NEAC champions.
Keuka's 2015 home opener is against Lancaster Bible College at 8 p.m. Jan. 23.
